How Much Does Ice Maker Repair Cost in Atlanta?
What ice maker repair costs with us
- Diagnostic: $80, credited toward the repair when you go ahead.
- Repairs: from $180 plus parts on standard refrigerator brands.
- Premium and built-in brands: quoted on site.
- Written estimate before work and a 60-day parts and labor warranty.
This covers ice makers and dispensers built into refrigerators and freezers, including in-door ice compartments. Standalone, undercounter and commercial ice machines are outside our service.
Where the problem is changes the price
An empty ice bin can come from several places, and each one carries a different part and labor cost.
- Water supply: a clogged filter, a failing water inlet valve or a kinked supply line. Valves sit at the back of the fridge and are usually straightforward to reach.
- The ice maker itself: a failed module, motor, thermostat or shut-off sensor. Many are replaced as one assembly.
- A frozen fill tube: thawing it is quick, but the cause, such as a dripping valve, has to be fixed too.
- The dispenser: auger motor, chute flap, actuator paddle or switch. Some of these sit inside the door and take longer.
- In-door ice compartments: seals, fans and airflow from the freezer matter here, so the diagnosis can involve more than the ice maker.
Free checks before you pay for a visit
- Make sure the ice maker is turned on at the unit or on the control panel.
- Measure the freezer temperature. Near 0°F is where most ice makers work properly.
- Replace a water filter that is more than about six months old.
- Empty the bucket, break up fused ice and reseat it.
- Confirm the water valve behind the fridge is open and the line is not pinched.
If ice is still missing a day later, the problem is likely a part. Our ice maker repair page explains the symptoms in more detail.
When the problem is the plumbing, not the fridge
Sometimes the ice maker is fine and the water simply is not reaching it. Low household water pressure, an old self-piercing saddle valve on the supply pipe, or a supply line crushed when the fridge was pushed back can all starve the ice maker.
Our technician checks the water supply as part of the diagnosis and will tell you if the issue sits on the plumbing side rather than in the appliance. That way you are not paying for a new valve or ice maker that would not have solved anything. If a supply line behind the refrigerator is leaking, turn off its shut-off valve and keep the area dry until it is fixed.
Repair the ice maker or replace the fridge?
Full-size refrigerators usually last 10 to 15 years, and the ice maker is often one of the first parts to need work along the way. On its own, an ice maker fault is almost never a reason to replace the refrigerator.
Apply the 50 percent rule to the whole fridge. If the ice maker repair, plus anything else wrong with the unit, costs more than half the price of a comparable new refrigerator, or the fridge is near the end of its life and also cooling poorly, replacement may be wiser. Otherwise, fixing the ice maker is the economical choice. Our repair vs. replace guide covers the trade-offs.
Keeping ice maker costs down
- Change the filter on schedule so the inlet valve is not fighting low flow.
- Use ice regularly, or turn the maker off during long trips, so cubes do not fuse and jam the auger.
- Keep the freezer door closing fully to prevent frost around the ice maker.
- Call when cubes start shrinking, before a weak valve or frozen tube becomes a leak.

Do you fix undercounter ice machines?
No. We repair only ice makers built into refrigerators and freezers. Standalone and undercounter units such as Scotsman, U-Line or Hoshizaki are not something we service.
Is it cheaper to replace the ice maker or the whole refrigerator?
Repairing the ice maker is almost always far less than a new refrigerator. Repairs on standard brands start from $180 plus parts, after an $80 diagnostic that is credited toward the repair.
Why does my in-door ice maker keep freezing up?
Ice buildup in a door compartment is commonly tied to a worn compartment seal, a door out of alignment or an airflow problem. Replacing the ice maker alone may not stop it if the cause is the seal or fan.
