Viking helped bring commercial-style cooking into the home, and its stainless ranges are the centerpiece of many Atlanta kitchens. They are built heavy and run hot, and that hard work eventually wears igniters, valves, fan motors and door hardware.
Mr. Fixer repairs Viking ranges, rangetops, cooktops and wall ovens, refrigerators and dishwashers. We diagnose carefully, protect the floors around a range that may weigh several hundred pounds, and give you the price in writing before any work starts.
About Viking appliances
Viking was founded in Greenwood, Mississippi, in 1987 and is widely credited with popularizing the professional-style range for home kitchens. It has been owned since 2013 by the Middleby Corporation, a large maker of commercial foodservice equipment. Viking products come in several series, from pro-style gas and dual-fuel ranges and rangetops to wall ovens, built-in refrigeration and dishwashers. The ranges use high-output sealed burners, large oven cavities and heavy doors, so repairs often involve parts sized for that output. Many components are unique to Viking and ordered by model and serial number, while some ignition parts follow common industry designs.
Common Viking problems we fix
Burners clicking constantly or not lighting
Spills that reach the burner switches or spark module are a frequent cause of nonstop clicking on Viking ranges. Cracked igniters and caps out of position cause burners that click but never catch.
Gas oven slow to heat or not heating
A weak hot-surface oven igniter is one of the most common Viking oven failures. It can glow without drawing enough current to open the gas valve, so the oven heats slowly or not at all.
Convection fan loud or stopped
Worn convection fan motors grind, squeal or stop, and baking turns uneven. We test the motor and its control circuit to confirm which has failed.
Oven door dropping or not sealing
Viking oven doors are heavy, and hinges and springs wear with years of use. A door that drops open or does not seal lets heat escape and stresses the controls above it.
Built-in refrigerator warm or ice maker stuck
On Viking refrigeration, warming often comes from condenser airflow, a fan or the defrost system. Ice makers usually stop because of a frozen fill tube or a failing valve.
Viking tips from our technicians
- If the kitchen smells of gas, leave the burners off and do not flip switches. Head outside, call the gas utility from there, and book us once the utility has cleared the home.
- When cleaning a Viking cooktop, wipe up liquid before it runs under the burner bases. Water on the ignition switches is a leading cause of nonstop clicking.
- Close heavy oven doors gently rather than letting them drop. It extends the life of the hinges and springs.
