How Much Does Refrigerator Repair Cost in Atlanta?
What we charge for refrigerator repair
Our pricing is built so you know the starting point before the technician arrives and the full number before any part is replaced.
- Diagnostic visit: $80. The technician tests the fridge and finds the cause. If you approve the repair, the $80 is credited toward it.
- Repairs: from $180 plus parts on standard brands such as Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire, Samsung and LG.
- Premium and built-in brands such as Sub-Zero or Thermador are quoted on site.
- Compressor and sealed-system work is quoted in writing after diagnosis.
Every repair comes with a written estimate first and a 60-day parts and 60-day labor warranty afterward. Our prices page lists the full rate card.
Why two fridge repairs rarely cost the same
The starting price covers the labor side of a typical job. What pushes the total higher is mostly the part itself and the time it takes to reach it.
- The part that failed. A door gasket, a thermistor or a fan motor is a smaller part than a main control board or an inverter compressor.
- Access. Replacing an evaporator fan on a top-freezer model means removing one panel. On some French door and built-in units, the same job means unloading the freezer and taking apart several covers.
- More than one fault. A failed defrost heater often leaves the evaporator fan blade frozen, and a leaking inlet valve can damage the flooring beneath it. We price everything we find in one estimate.
- Genuine parts. We use factory-recommended parts, which fit as designed and hold up under warranty.
Common fridge problems and how complex they tend to be
These are general patterns, not quotes. The written estimate after diagnosis is the only real price.
- Usually simpler: a torn door gasket, a stuck damper, a light switch, a clogged defrost drain, or a start relay that clicks but will not start the compressor.
- Middle of the road: evaporator and condenser fan motors, defrost heaters and thermostats, water inlet valves and ice maker modules.
- Most involved: main control boards on newer models, and anything inside the sealed system, such as the compressor, a refrigerant leak or a restricted line. Those are covered on our sealed-system repair page.
If your fridge is warm but the freezer is cold, our guide to why a refrigerator is not cooling walks through the likely causes.
What the $80 refrigerator diagnostic covers
The diagnostic is not a quick glance and a guess. The technician measures the temperature in both compartments, checks whether the compressor and fans are running, looks at the frost pattern on the evaporator and tests the defrost parts, relay and controls that match your symptoms.
Once the cause is confirmed, you get a written estimate that lists the part and the labor. If the fridge has more than one problem, such as a weak gasket alongside a failed fan, both appear on the estimate so you can decide with the whole picture. Approve the work and the $80 is credited toward the repair. Many common parts are on the truck, so the fix often happens the same visit.
Repair or replace your refrigerator?
Most full-size refrigerators last about 10 to 15 years, and built-in models often go longer with care. The 50 percent rule is a practical guide: if the repair would cost more than half the price of a comparable new refrigerator, or the unit is near the end of that lifespan, replacement usually makes more sense.
Fans, defrost parts, valves, sensors and gaskets are nearly always worth fixing, even on an eight or ten year old fridge. A compressor on an older basic model is where the math often tips. On a built-in that fits a custom cabinet, repair usually wins because replacement can mean remodeling. Our repair vs. replacement guide covers the full decision.
How to keep the bill as low as possible
- Check the free things first. Confirm the temperature setting, clear blocked vents and vacuum the condenser coils with the fridge unplugged.
- Call early. A fan that squeals or frost that keeps returning is cheaper to fix before it overworks the compressor.
- Have the model number ready. It is usually on a label inside the fresh-food section and helps us bring the right part on the first trip.
- Protect your food. Keep the doors closed while you wait for service.

Is the $80 refrigerator diagnostic fee extra?
Only if you decide not to go ahead. When you approve the repair, the $80 is credited toward the repair, so it is not an added charge.
Why does my estimate say from $180 plus parts?
The $180 starting point covers labor on a typical repair for a standard brand. The part price depends on what failed, so the full total is written on your estimate after diagnosis.
Do you charge more for Sub-Zero or other built-in refrigerators?
Premium and built-in brands are quoted on site because their parts and labor differ from standard models. You still receive a written price before any work begins.
